The Mournful News

The tragic death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday, September 18, 2020, was a great loss for America. People with a normal sense of decorum mourned her loss and showed their respects to her judicial legacy. They recognized what a legal giant this five foot tall woman was.

The Republican leadership, especially Senator Mitch McConnell, had been waiting for this moment for months, when news of Justice Ginsburg’s battle with pancreatic cancer was finally publicized. He, and Senator Lindsay Graham, Chairman of the Senate’s Judiciary Committee, could hardly wait for the last breath to leave Justice Ginsburg’s body before they announced that new confirmation hearings on President Donald Trump’s replacement nominee would be forthcoming at lightning speed. (So much for decorum….)

The Republican Rush

At the time of writing this, Trump has not yet announced his pick, but reliable sources have indicated it is highly likely to be Amy Coney Barrett, a Court of Appeals justice in the 7th Circuit. Justice Barrett is 48, a Hoosier from Pete Buttegieg’s home town of South Bend, Indiana, and is a staunch Roman Catholic…
