Trump is a reflection of the white people who are afraid of the inevitable demographics change in our country. They are homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, and religiously bigoted. They are afraid that this country is getting “browner” and, to them, it means worse. Trump speaks to the heart of these fearful folks.

Only when we realize that every person should be treated with dignity and respect, no matter their age, ethnicity, country of origin, sexual preferences, or religious values, will we have a country in which it’s an honor to live. Right now, the knuckle-dragging, NASCAR-loving, gun-toting Walmart shoppers have contaminated our political base to the point where it bears no resemblance to the democracy envisioned by our Founding Fathers.

These people need to realize that diversity is a good thing; that it is part of Nature’s plan to strengthen a group; and that without it, a society eventually crumbles.

Unless we eliminate (1) the Electoral College, (2) gerrymandering, (3) racist practices to disenfranchise felons and blacks and browns, and (4) private money in politics, we’ll just have more Trumps coming down the pike.
