This proposal has much to recommend it.

First, it takes into account the cultural aspects of each region. Southerners/Plains people cannot or will not accept the truisms that govern life in the Atlantic or Pacific regions. Our culture wars of the last 30+ years stem from the intransigence of each region's world views.

Second, the economic drivers of each region form the bases of our society's differences. Farmers and high-tech people have completely disparate views of what it takes to make money and support society.

Third, the political alliances of each region dovetail with their views of science/facts, religion, differing ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and the whole host of regional hot-button topics that provide commonality within the region, and great divides with those outside each region.

We could well remember Thomas Jefferson's phrase:

"The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time by the blood of patriots and tyrants."

We live in a society (a kakistocracy, actually) where false promises of security are made, in exchange for which we give up our freedoms.

By following your prescription, we renew our opportunities to enjoy lives more in keeping with our inherent (regional) natures and less in conflict with the values of our so-called regional neighbors.
