Two weeks of impeachment-investigation hearings have concluded. Gordon Sondland, a millionaire who bought his ambassadorship to the European Union, launched a bombardment of revelations about Trump and his repeated bribery efforts regarding Ukraine: “everybody was in the loop,” “they all knew about it,” “I told everyone at the highest level,” admissions which were corroborated by multiple other witnesses. Trump’s violations of the Constitution and his oath of office have been objectively and repeatedly confirmed by non-partisan career foreign service officers.

The question, then, is not whether the House of Representatives will file Articles of Impeachment (they will) but whether the Senate will convict. Judging from the political barometers right now, the answer is “they won’t.” However, things change.

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) is the leader of the Senator. Known as “the Grim Reaper” because of all the progressive and moderately-liberal bills he was responsible for killing, McConnell has been known for very good reason to be pathologically anti-Obama and pragmatically pro-Trump. However, his political allegiances have always been governed by the overriding principle: “what’s in it for me?”

What Will Change?

McConnell is an extraordinarily-unpopular Senator in his own home state. He’s been ridiculed…
