Genius! The power that dazzles mortal eyes,
Is oft’ but Perseverance, in disguise.
‘Twixt Failure and Success, the point’s so fine,
Men sometimes know not where to cross the line.

As the tide rolls clear out, it rolls back in.
At business ’tis at turns the wisest win.
Then take this Honey for the bitterest cup,
There is no failure, save in giving up.

There is no real fall, as long as one still tries,
For seeming setbacks make the strong man wise
There is no failure, save from within,
And unless you’re beaten there, you’re SURE to win!

— — — The Power Within, Dr. J.A. Cannon

We listen to so many different voices as we grow up: our parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, classmates, friends, neighbors. In today’s politically-correct world, the adults are supposed to be our supporters. Parents are no longer our parents, but our friends.

In my time, parents were parents. Children were meant to be seen and not heard. Serious illdiscipline on our part meant getting a healthy dose of “Vitamin B,” “B” as in belt. We survived. We grew. Some of us thrived. Many of us remembered: don’t be a loud-mouthed jerk, or a bully. Treat people with respect and dignity, and your world will be a better place.
