The Trump Mutiny?

How do we change Trump’s “base?”

Now that the Mueller Report has come out, showing nothing that would lead to the indictment of a sitting President, many on the right wing (and, of course, Trump’s base) are arguing that the investigation was a colossal waste of time and money, and that the American people were ill-served by this investigation. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Trump will naturally crow about his being exonerated by the report, because it did not call for any more indictments. Like the Caine Mutiny’s Captain Philip Francis Queeg, Trump blames everyone but himself for the errors and missteps of his administration. In his maledictions, such as “Make America Great Again,” “Witch Hunt,” and “No Collusion!,” he uses phrases that invoke evil in our political discourse.

Rather than admitting his mistakes, Trump revels in blame-storming on his Twitter account and in his pep rallies in “the Heartland.” He takes no responsibility for violating the Constitution. Instead, he has engaged in Muslim-bans and immigration-bashing; has declared a national emergency (where there is none) in order to get funding for his border wall; has cozied up to dictators around the world; has created a sexist, racist, xenophobic, homophobic ambience in our political and social spaces; and has devastated our environment.
