…the Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight

The Mueller Report, heavily-redacted and causing no end of consternation among Democrats, was released on Thursday, April 18. What it reveals is a White House in disarray, President Trump’s coterie of confidants embroiled in internecine warfare and self-aggrandizing scheming, and a pathological liar with severe Narcissistic Personality Disorder ostensibly in charge of the whole thing. This appalling spectacle reveals several critical truths about the man running the show — -and tells us some important things we need to learn about ourselves in the process.

I. In Many Instances, Trump’s Aides Didn’t Carry Out His Orders

Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s former campaign manager, did not tell then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to unrecuse himself. Former White House Counsel Donald McGahn did not carry out a modern-day “Saturday Night Massacre.” Sessions himself refused to fire Robert Mueller.

In addition to his recalcitrant staff, many of Trump’s subordinates cultivated off-the-record relationships with members of the press. There were far more leaks in the Trump White House than there were in the Titanic. People such as Steve Bannon frequently provided detailed press backgrounders to advance their own agendas and hurt others’ goals. Immigration czar Stephen Miller, doing his best…
