The Green New Deal: Part 2
In my previous article on the Green New Deal (GND), a proposed resolution jointly submitted by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey, the thrust of the GND is the urgent need for radical shifts in our public policies involving the economy, politics, science, law, education, the military, and the role the government has in helping preserve our country and the world.
There are countless articles and posts on the need for us to make dramatic changes in how we live, and make our livings, in order to save the planet from the pending disaster of global climate change. The upshot of all of the words spoken and written about GCC is simple: it’s real; it’s here; it’s man-caused; and it’s going to kill the majority of us in the next 100 years unless we get a handle on it, NOW.
Throughout history we’ve gone from being hunter-gatherers to farmers to industrialists to technologists. With each jump to the next level, our consumption of energy resources has dramatically increased. Until now, our economies have been hydrocarbon based. The waste products have been particulate matter and carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas responsible for increasing our atmospheric temperature.
