In the Suburbs, the Times They Are a-Changin’….

Katelyn Arthurs, Julie Whelan, and Elizabeth Chamberlain in Soccer Mom (2019)

Michael Bloomberg has flooded the airwaves with his ads, to the tune of over $400 milliion spent on marketing him on TV. He is the sort of “Democrat” who has enough wealth so he doesn’t have to raise funds from wealthy donors. (Compare this to the millions and millions of dollars from the “Sanders Treasury,” the army of Bernie Sanders supports who keep on giving to his campaign).

There are the generalized, superficial talking points: on the environment, Bloomberg says he can get 80% reduction in greenhouse gases and other forms of pollution by 2028; he has a strong background in business organization, unlike Trump, whose six bankruptcies were filed to stiff his creditors; and, to comfort the scared-of-their-own-shadows suburban soccer moms, he had a strong “stop-and-frisk” policy in New York City. (Of course, he wants us to disregard the atrocious policy, which dehumanized the black and Latino folks who were shoved against the walls and frisked by “New York’s finest” on a regular basis, and which had to be stopped by federal courts who were appalled by his orders to manhandle minorities in New York. He believes the suburban housewives don’t care about the rights of minorities nearly as much as they care about protecting themselves and their families….)
