A Massive Change is in the Works

We’re ending the second decade of the 21st century and will soon enter the third. We started the century with a War on Terrorism and are ending this decennium with the Terrorist-in-Chief lodged in the White House, nominally facing an impeachment trial. The question, naturally, is whether he will ever undergo a trial and, if so, will he be acquitted.

The 2010s started out with President Barack Obama in the middle of his first term. While Obama campaigned on the slogans of “Hope!” and “Change You Can Believe in!,” he seemed to run as a progressive but in reality he governed as a center-rightist. Since a few weeks before Obama’s first inaugural, the sad truth is that we had massive obstructionism going on in the Republican Party, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky), also known as “Dr. No,” “the Grim Reaper,” and, most recently, “Moscow Mitch.”

The divisiveness in this country — the rudeness, lack of courtesy, lack of civility, the notion that spewing hatred is perfectly fine — is setting the stage for a Civil War redux. The hatred spilling over the airwaves, print, and social media is rapidly increasing, and it makes it ever-so-difficult for people to work together to solve common problems.
